22. Review and Discussion of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 4 (2020) [Potential Spoilers]
Yes, I did force myself through the final season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It was... definitely interesting.
My enjoyment of TCAoS began to derail after season two, if I am completely honest. It progressively got worse, straying from it's originality and just becoming a spookier version of Riverdale. (Understandable, it is made by the same people).
Season Four was kind of painful to sit through, and there were many points where I felt like packing it up and retreating to a dark room where I could nurse my eyes after having them bombarded with, may I say in terms of story line, very irrelevant topless images of pretty much every single male character in the show. As much as I love Ross Lynch, I did actually want to see him act, and not just his nipples.
This season follows Sabrina, the other Sabrina, and their family and friends as they use their witchy and occult ways to prevent the end of the world. I found myself overwhelmed during many of the episodes due to feeling completely overloaded with information, which I think is partly down to the show producers trying to fit multiple seasons worth of content into one in order to wrap everything up as quickly as possible.
However, there were certain episodes and aspects throughout the series which weren't completely terrible. For example, pretty much all of the scenes set in Hell I found cool, and the scenes with the new order of Weird Sisters were also interesting.
An episode which I did thoroughly enjoy due to it's overall concept and styling (despite the fact there was a lot of singing) was the Battle of the Bands episode, Episode 6 Chapter Thirty Four: The Returned. Although there was a whole lot happening in this episode, I found it fun, and I also really enjoyed the punky costumes. I also found it funny that Lucifer took time out of his day to host the competition.
Despite overall thinking that this season wasn't great, my attachment to the characters did mean that I found myself crying in the final episode. Embarrassing as it is, I put it down to being absolutely shocked at how the show wraps up. I really could not have predicted any of it from the first episode.
If you want to put yourself through a cringe fest, be my guest and watch this season. If you haven't ever seen TCAoS, I would recommend not putting yourself through the third and fourth seasons, just for your own sanity.
