31. Review of Disney's Onward (Dir. Dan Scanlon, 2020)

 I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to watching this film, but I am so glad that I finally did. (in all honesty, you could whack Tom Holland's name on anything and I would give it a shot).

With a little modernistic twist on all things fairy-tale, whimsy and magical, Onward is a great adventure movie which also explores family and loss. 

The story follows brothers Ian and Barley on a journey to bring their deceased father back for one day, learning about old and obsolete magic. A long the way, the brothers realise things about themselves and each other, meaning for some heart warming and also heart wrenching moments.

I think this film explores some important themes, such as how sacrificing things for those you love is important sometimes, and also that family doesn't always have to be the stereotypical nuclear family which society is conditioned to believe it is.

Along with a great storyline, the animation and cinematography of Onward is truly enchanting and beautiful.

I really really loved this film, and found myself brought to tears, which isn't really a surprise as I cry at almost every film I watch. If you love Disney films and Pixar films, I would say that Onward is a must watch!

As a valentines treat, I took my boyfriend to see  Black Panther . (When I say treat, I mean treating  myself  to a close up, HD view of Michael B. Jordans face.) First off, I’d like to just say that I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed this film. The characters? Brilliant. The mise-en-scene? Phenomenal. Cinematography? Astonishing. 22. Review and Discussion of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 4 (2020) [Potential Spoilers]

 Yes, I did force myself through the final season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.  It was... definitely interesting. My enjoyment of TCAoS began to derail after season two, if I am completely honest. It progressively got worse, straying from it's originality and just becoming a spookier version of Riverdale. (Understandable, it is made by the same people). Season Four was kind of painful to sit through, and there were many points where I felt like packing it up and retreating to a dark room where I could nurse my eyes after having them bombarded with, may I say in terms of story line, very irrelevant topless images of pretty much every single male character in the show. As much as I love Ross Lynch, I did actually want to see him act, and not just his nipples.  This season follows Sabrina, the other Sabrina, and their family and friends as they use their witchy and occult ways to prevent the end of the world. 27. Review of Happy Death Day 2 U (Dir. Christopher Landon, 2019)

 I watched Happy Death Day  a few years back and I didn't recall it being terrible, so when Happy Death Day 2 U popped up on my Netflix home screen I thought I would give it  a go. The overall premise of this film series is that the main character, Tree, gets stuck in a ground hog day situation and has to solve her own murder in order to escape the loop. In the first one she successfully manages this, however in this film more characters get dragged into this loop through her boyfriend Carter's room mates science project. This project ends up being the main solution to the time loop problems, and also explains how the time loops started in the first place. Rather than being a slasher comedy like the first film, this movie fits into a weird sci-fi teen drama genre. This mixture of genres could have made for an interesting and potentially good watch if it wasn't for the fact that the acting and narrative are just not very good.
