17. Review of Yes, God, Yes (Dir. Karen Main, 2019)

 Part of my reasoning for watching this film was because Natalia Dyer is in it, and to say I've only ever seen her in Stranger Things (2016- present)  and Hannah Montana: The Movie (Dir. Peter Chelsom, 2009), that isn't much to go off of.

However, I quite enjoyed it.

Yes, God, Yes is a comedic coming of age movie which follows a young Christian girl at a Christian camp as she explores her sexuality within the constraints of religion, and discovers that even those who shame her are committers of "sin" themselves. The film very effectively captures the cringiness which comes with growing up, alongside the double standards which come with gender and sexuality.

This film is extremely well shot, with wonderful lighting and many visually beautiful settings - wow, how we do love cinematography. The acting is also great, Dyers performance in particular being very convincing, and also slightly comparable to the character she plays in Stranger Things; a "good girl" who realises she doesn't have to uphold the expectations others hold over her.

If you're looking for something to watch on Netflix, I would recommend Yes, God, Yes, as it is a fun film with a good message.

I tend to forget that you can watch things on Amazon Prime, but with the release of PANIC and it's multiple advertisements I was pleasantly reminded. Based on the the 2014 young adult novel PANIC by Lauren Oliver, this series covers a small town in Texas' yearly tradition, in which graduating seniors compete in a dangerous game and face their fears in order to win money to improve their lives.  From looking at other reviews, PANIC has gained a mixed receival, however I genuinely really enjoyed it and found it extremely binge able and tense at points. The series is an amalgamation of different genres and themes, including romance, crime, loyalty, poverty, privilege, and gave me similar vibes to The Society (2019) and Escape Room (2019) - but with lower stakes. 36. Review of Netflix's Love and Monsters (Dir. Michael Matthews, 2020)

Love and Monsters really took me by surprise, and I ended up enjoying it so much more than I would have ever thought. The film follows Joel (Dylan O'Brien) as he sets out on a journey in the midst of a mutated monster apocalypse to rekindle his relationship with his pre-apocalypse girlfriend. Along the way, Joel makes friends, overcomes his fears, finds his strengths and realises there's more to life than just purely surviving. Love and Monsters features some really interesting ideas, mixing sci-fi, dystopia, romance, comedy, and monsters, bringing a really fresh movie experience, especially to say that this was a feature which was based purely on a script and not derived from a book or TV show like many films nowadays. I also found that I really appreciated the casting; Dylan O'Brien is great (although I feel he is being typecast for running roles), Michael Rooker is brilliant, and I was also extremely excited  to see Arianna Greenblatt who played Young Gamora in Avenger...

04. J-Hope: 'Hope World' mix tape and 'Daydream' MV Review

J-Hope (rapper from the Korean group BTS, for all you uneducated people out there) finally dropped his first mix tape, after years of anticipation. After only one day of being released, J-Hope now holds the title for a Korean solo artist with the most number ones on iTunes. As some of you reading this may already know that I am whipped for J-Hope and literally anything he does, it comes as no surprise that I was filled with fangirl-ish glee when the mix tape and music video for Daydream was released. However, I had to wait six torturous hours, avoiding every single spoiler on social media as I waited for my flat mate to return home to watch it with me.  When it finally was time to sit down, relax and bless my ears and eyes, I was definitely not disappointed.
