40. Spoiler Free Review of American Horror Story: 1984 (Ryan Murphy, 2019)
American Horror Story has been running for a long time now, and with time, each season has progressively been disappointing. However, after finally getting to watching Season 9, I reignited a little bit of my love for the series.
There were some really fun parts of this series, alongside scenes which genuinely made me wince or cringe, and I did find myself stuck to the screen with the amount of plot twists and crazy character revelations which took place.
I feel this series really nailed the camp themes of an 80's slasher with an overload of jazzercize, synth pop, 80's fashion and over the top stabbing, whilst maintaining some stereotypical AHS horror tropes - asylums, serial killers on the loose, supernatural happenings. And, of course, cast with many familiar AHS faces, including Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Dylan McDermott and Finn Wittrock to name a few, along with a few fresher faces and new cast members from more recent seasons.

Now, don't get me wrong; AHS: 1984 is far from perfect. It definitely gets a little farfetched, and straight up just doesn't make sense at certain points, however that should come as no surprise to anyone who has seen anything made by Ryan Murphy. However, this craziness didn't lead to me not enjoying the show, as I think that AHS is now being created with awareness of the fact that it is over the top. Sadly, though, this may also be the reason as to why so many original cast members aren't returning for roles as often.
Overall I found AHS: 1984 to be a fun and enjoyable watch, with humorous moments intertwined with some classic camp horror, and I would recommend giving it a watch for anyone who hasn't caught up on the season yet, or even just for anyone who really loves the 80's and (bad) 80's horror.
